Generic Adalat - Precautions And Warnings

Adalat is a prescription medication used in the treatment of hypertension or high blood pressure. These are part of a group of medicines that are known as calcium channel blockers. This medicine was initially manufactured by Bayer Pharmaceuticals. However, since it has come off the patent now, it is available in the generic form.

The generic Adalat CC is presently sold under the three names - Nifediac CC, Nifedipine extended release, and Afeditab CR tablets.
Just as it is the case with all medication generic Adalat also comes with some warnings. These warnings include the risk of the drug worsening the chest pain, safety of the drug during pregnancy or while breastfeeding babies, as well as potential drug interactions. Precautions and warnings:

When you take Adalat CC there are some things that you should be aware of:

- Adalat CC may cause low blood pressure, especially if you are also taking beta blockers. You must inform your healthcare provider if there are any noticeable signs of low blood pressure, dizziness, fainting, or lightheadedness.

- Inform your healthcare provider if there are any planned surgeries. If there are upcoming surgeries, you may have to stop taking the medication a few days prior to surgery depending on the type of anesthetic that will be administered.

- Under rare circumstances, Adalat CC can worsen chest pain. It may sometimes cause a heart attack also. This is more of a risk factor in those with severe heart disease. In case, there is worsening of chest pain, you must inform your healthcare provider about it.

- Sometimes, those who are taking Adalat CC as well as beta blockers can suffer from congestive heart failure. People who have aortic stenosis are more likely to face this problem.

- Taking Adalat CC may also lead to water retention or edema. Water retention is very dangerous for those with congestive heart failure. Hence, people with this condition should exercise caution while taking this medication.
